Slide 1
Hey guys it’s Kristen, today’s society is all about technology. Am I wrong, no. How many times a day do you check your phone or the computer? I bet a lot because I know I do…. do you know what is happening with identities in online spaces?
Slide 2
What exactly is identity? I can say identity makes up who I am. My name is Kristen Leason, I am 21 years old and a junior at Rowan University. This is a small part of my identity. According to Sherri Turkle, “Life on the screen tells on how the computer profoundly shapes our ways of thinking and feeling, how ideas carried by technology are reshaped by people for their own purposes, how computers are not just changing out lives but changing ourselves”. So in away a person can argue that computers and online spaces maybe a positive or negative.
Slide 3
On my WordPress blog I posted a piece called facebook personality stating, After reading Eler’s article, I can agree that whatever people put on their facebook page is who they are in real life but people can change. People somehow believe they have a lot of power when they are behind the screen and think they are not going to hurt others. Cyberbulling is being a huge issue.Next, time when you are about to write something bad and think to yourself would you want someone saying that about you?
Slide 4
Information ecology otherwise known as social networking, can be defined as, “a system of people, practices, values, and technologies in a particular local environment”.
Slide 5
I will admit that I am on the internet a lot and these are my main online spaces I go on.
Slide 6
This is my Twitter page. Twitter is just a blogging site where people follow you and you can follow others. Tweeting is just a way where you can express your feelings on the internet.
Slide 7
This is a map of the people who follow me.
Slide 8
This is a map of the people I follow.
Slide 9
Facebook is another blogging site where you friend people. I friend my friends. and I do not friend people I do not know. If you want to blog Facebook calls it a status.
Slide 10
This a map from Touchgraph Facebook and it shows all my friends and how I know them.
Slide 11
Tumblr,. I am fairly new to this but I love it. It is a blogging site using pictures. You can use your own pictures of the sites pictures. You can follow people and reblog any pictures you like from their page.
Slide 12
I am also fairly new to this online site called LinkedIn. This site I believe is for jobs. Here you should create your true indentity.
Slide 13
With online sites popping up everywhere there are many negatives that I noticed. Problems with Online sites are creating new identities, theses spaces become people’s lives , a lot of people rely on the spaces way too much, people may judge people the wrong way, people make their statues or blogs way to personal, friends or yourself can make fake accounts, bullying can occur, and websites want to know every detail in yor life.
Slide 14
Today’s real issues involve the economy, politics, gas prices, gay marriage, and warfare. I know I did not keep up with the new even though it is on phone. The online spaces kept me distracted.
Slide 15
I took all my blogs and made a worlde. Theses words are the words I used most frequently.
Slide 16
Does social network take over your life? I know it was taking over my life.
Slide 17
This is tweetstats, I just got my Twitter account in January and as you can see I tweet a lot. Showing that I cared a lot about the site and spent a lot of time on it.
Slide 18
What I realized… I rely on technology way too much. I was constantly on my phone, checking Facebook or updating my Twitter. I am thankful for this module because I learned that I need to take a step back every once in a while to see the bigger picture. The bigger picture is what is happening in today’s society. What are my friends and family doing or how are they? I learned not to care so much about social networks and care about the small things in this world.
Slide 19
Are you up for a challenge?!?
Slide 20
I challenge you to ‘quit’ one social network for one week
Slide 21
This is my tweet about how I was quitting Facebook
Slide 22
I quit Facebook for one week, yes it was hard but it opened my eyes. The people who I interacted with on a daily bases are the only ones I should care about.
Slide 23
I will never forget about the small things, this is who I should care about my friends and family not the online spaces.

No Facebook No Problem

No facebook for a week was interesting. At first, it was pretty hard not to click the little icon on my computer, but after a while, it wasn’t so bad. I resorted mostly to Twitter and Tumblr; I enjoy going on those websites more than facebook now. Looking back on the absence of the biggest social network online, I find myself stunned at the amount of time my life surrounded around it. -Jenn

In my draft I basically introduced the topic and placed all my screenshots for the social medias that I use in my prezi. There is still a lot more that I need to add but I think I am off to a good start.

A week without Facebook
13 Feb 2012 Leave a Comment
This week was not as bad as I suspected but I still miss Facebook. I was always on Facebook and I probably will be after tomorrow too. It is just what I do to occupy my time. But, since there was no Facebook available to me this week I did get a little more involved in Twitter. I am not a big fan of Twitter at all. I guess because I don’t have a smart phone I am less likely to find a computer to tweet something that comes to mind. I never know what to tweet so I don’t do it as often as I should. I like Facebook mostly for the pictures. I should probably join a network that does deal with pictures because thats all I really like to look at.
Facebook Deprived

It has only been one whole day of not logging into facebook and I am really missing it. I never really realized how much I depended on facebook to occupy my time. I mostly used facebook when I needed a break from doing my homework so I am getting more homework done than usual which is a good thing. But, it is killing me to not be able to go on and see what everyone is up to or be able to chat with someone if they are online. A lot of times I would do school work while chatting with someone on facebook. I can see how facebook does make me lazy on a daily basis though. It is nice to see how much I can get done without using it. Facebook normally slows me down on a lot of things. I don’t like not knowing what my friends are up to though and seeing the different things they are posting on their walls. My best friend is turning 21 on Saturday and I can’t stand that I am not able to go on facebook to see who is attending her birthday night. I guess this will make it a surprise to me on Saturday night. The big advantage to not using facebook constantly is that it is so much easier to concentrate on school work and get caught up in all my classes. I could see how not having a facebook could definately improve an individual as a student.
Study: Your Facebook Personality

After reading this article by Alicia Eler I learned that my facebook personality and my real life personality are really no different. I use facebook to connect with friends and stay updated with the latest gossip. I am also very guilty of using facebook when I am procastinating with school work. I use facebook more to see what other people are up to. I do not post much information about myself on facebook, I mostly post pictures of certain things I do. I try to stay more low key on facebook, I never post anything too extravegant which is much like my everyday personality. I mostly keep to myself in reality and I also keep to myself on facebook. I don’t really want people to know my every move during the day but it is entertaining to see what other people are up to at all times. I can definately see how facebook is your real life personality though because I can go onto my friends’ pages and totally see their personalities coming through their certain posts or pictures. We all talk to each other through facebook like we would to eachother in person. It is just a way for us to communicate over the internet and stay connected with one another. Your personality should not have to change just because your on the internet.
